Space institute work progressing

A Correspondent

Nedumbassery: G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has described the progress in the works of the proposed new campuses for the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) as satisfying and said that the State government had been making a considerable contribution in its progress.

He told The Hindu here on Friday that the works on the institute’s campuses had gained momentum and they would complete the works in a time-bound manner. He expressed the hope that land acquisition by the State government for the two new campuses at Valiyamala and Ponmudi would be completed soon.

The institute that started functioning last year, offers courses in space technology with specialisation in avionics and aerospace engineering. The IISC will celebrate its first anniversary on June 5, this year. Mr. Nair held the view that the scholarship schemes provided to research students in various colleges by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, was an important part of its academic programmes.
