SSLC pass percentage goes up

Government schools have recorded better performance than last year

PUDUCHERRY: The overall pass percentage of government and private schools in Puducherry and Karaikal in the SSLC public examinations has gone up to 79.40. A marginal increase of 0.49 per cent from last year’s 78.91 per cent, government schools have come up better performance than last year.

Declaring the results on Friday, Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan said that out of the total 15,512 students (7,606 boys and 7,906 girls) who appeared for the examination, 12, 317 (5,801 boys and 6,516 girls) had passed. Girls outshined boys with a pass percentage of 82.42.

In Puducherry, the overall pass percentage was 79.38, an increase by 0.13 per cent from last year. Schools in Karaikal secured 79.49 pass per cent, when compared to 77.51 per cent last year.

Government schools in Puducherry and Karaikal registered a pass percentage of 70.83 compared to 70.64 in 2006-2007 and 62.81 in 2005-2006.

Hussainia Government Girls High School at Karaikal secured centum results this year. The Minister said 16 government schools secured a pass percentage of over 90. While 37 government schools had a pass percentage of above 80, 76 schools recorded above 60 per cent.

“The government’s award of Rs.one lakh for securing pass percent of above 90 will go to 10 government schools in rural areas of Puducherry. Last year, only one school had received the prize,” he said.

Government high schools at Mangalam, Kombakkam, Katterikuppam, Veerampattinam and Sellipattu and two at Karaikal, would receive the award.

He said government schools had secured a good pass percentage this year. Efforts to improve the performance would be taken through extra coaching for students, he added.

State rank holders

Overall, M. Jeyaraj of Jawahar English High School, Koodapakkam, bagged the first rank with 492 marks.

The second rank was shared by five students with 490 marks: R. Harikrishna and B. Ghayathri of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School, V. Suganya of Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School, R. Vishnukumar of Holy Flowers English School and S. Rajalakshmi of Sri Ramachandira Vidhyalaya School.

R.S. Priya of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School and P. Manjula of Seventh-Day Adventist secured the third rank with 489 marks.

Among the government schools in Puducherry and Karaikal, R. Subhashini of Subramania Bharathiar Government Girls Higher Secondary School stood first with 488 marks.

The second rank holder was G. Vaidegi of Government Girls High School, Kalapet, with 484 marks, while V. Jayalakshmi of Sinnatha Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Muthialpet, secured the third rank with 482 marks.

Matriculation results

The overall pass percentage of matriculation schools in Puducherry was 97.77 compared to 96.97 per cent last year. A total of 1,253 students (719 boys and 534 girls) had appeared for the examination. Girls recorded 99.25 pass per cent, while boys obtained 96.66 per cent.

Preethi Philip of St. Joseph of Cluny Girls Higher Secondary School secured the first rank with 485 marks. B. Sindhu Ravindra of the same school stood second with 483 marks and Arunima Saxena of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School came third with 482 marks.

Centum results

St. Joseph of Cluny Girls Higher Secondary School, Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School, Achariya Shiksha Mandir Higher Secondary School, Alpha Matriculation, Maruthi Matriculation and Sri Sankara Vidyashram School secured centum results.
