Vehicles given to physically challenged students

HELPING THE NEEDY: Madras High Court Judge Prafulla Kumar Misra presenting the key of a two – wheeler to a physically challenged student in Puducherry on Friday.

PUDUCHERRY: Judge of Madras High Court Prafulla Kumar Misra on Friday handed over keys of motorised vehicles to physically challenged students.

Mr. Misra handed over the keys and documents to 12 persons selected by the Puducherry Legal Services Authority (UTPLSA).

The vehicles were donated by the Department of Social Welfare.

He said that such gestures would help the physically challenged to overcome difficulties.

Presiding over the function Social Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy said the department would take all steps to help the physically challenged. The physically challenged students who owned two-wheelers would be provided 20 litres of free petrol every month.

The government was also taking steps to earmark three per cent reservation for the physically challenged youth in government jobs, besides asking the private companies to implement the policy.
