Police unearth plot to kill RSS leader

G. Anand

Thiruvananthapuram: A conspiracy hatched in Dubai to kill a top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary in the district in retaliation for the murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activist ‘Vanchiyoor’ Vishnu has been uncovered, the city police said on Saturday.

Officials said they thwarted the conspiracy on the basis of information passed on by certain ruling front politicians who wanted to avoid further CPI(M)-RSS clashes in the district.

They said the conspirators, including two of Vishnu’s relatives and a CPI(M) activist at Shanghumughom, met absconding ‘gang leader’ Om Prakash in Dubai this month. (Om Prakash is wanted in connection with a gangland murder.)

The police said the conspirators enlisted the help of Ambalamukku Krishnakumar, another wanted man, to avenge Vishnu’s murder. A police team led by Circle Inspectors R. Mahesh and K.E. Baiju arrested Krishnakumar on Friday. The suspect is accused in two gang-related revenge killings. While in jail as a remand prisoner, Krishnakumar and alleged gang leader ‘Karate’ Suresh had been booked on the charge of ordering a country bomb attack on a prison warden.
