dated May 31, 1958: Heat wave in N.E. India

Thirty-six persons have died of sun stroke in the week-long heat wave in Bihar according to reports reaching Patna from various parts of the State. Temperature has shot up to 117 degrees F., at Daltonganj, highest so far in Bihar. Alarming reports about acute scarcity of drinking water are being received from parts of Bhagalpur district. Wells and tanks have dried up in the villages and efforts to sink tube wells or dig ‘kutcha’ wells have proved futile.
