Tiruvallur in last four

Kayalpatnam: Tiruvallur swamped Coimbatore 9-0 in a purely one sided match and entered the semifinals of the 17th Tamil Nadu State youth football championship for A.G. Subburaman Memorial Cup here on Friday.

Gnanasekaran scored three goals (22nd, 45th and 54th), Anandaraj a brace (33rd, 61st), and Dilipkumar (6th), Sam Abishek (11th), Manivannan (61st) and Sakthivel (68th) one each.

Vellore also made the last four grade defeating Tuticorin by the odd goal in three in a well-contested match.

Satheesh put Vellore ahead with a 12th minute strike. Ramkumar equalised for Tuticorin in the 33rd minute. Kuppusamy scored the winner for Vellore in the 71st minute.

Jaffar CA in final

Jaffar Cricket Academy (Erode) and Asiatic Cricket Academy (Chennai) will clash for the title in the Vignesh Sports Trophy State-level inter-cricket Academy (under-17) limited overs tournament. The teams register their second wins in the four-team league at Dindigul on Friday.

PSNA CA 101 for nine in 25 overs (P. Kesavan 52, Sriram three for 12) lost to Jaffer CA (Erode) 105 for two in 18.2 overs (Krisudhan 41 n.o.).

Orange Shirts CA 122 for seven in 25 overs (Mukilalagan 34, Sachin three for 20) lost to Asiatic CA (Chennai) 124 for three in 21.3 overs (Srinath 39, Mathew 34 n.o.).

Mahesh scalps five

Mahesh’s five for 14 helped Syed Ammal Engineering College (Ramanathapuram) defeat Urumu Dhanalakshmi College (Tiruchi) by three wickets and enter the final of the Nayagan Trophy State-level Twenty20 cricket tournament at Ramanathapuram on Friday.

Syed Ammal College will meet Majestic Cricket Club (Devipattinam) in the final. Majestic CC beat Nayagan Cricket Club by three wickets in the other semifinal.

Urumu Dhanalakshmi College (Tiruchi) 101 in 20 overs (Mahesh five for 14) lost to Syed Ammal Engineering College (Ramanathapuram) 102 for seven in 18.3 overs (M.M. Rajesh 40).

Nayagan CC 108 for nine in 20 overs (Suresh 29, Mohanrajan 32, Ramu three for 11) lost to Majestic CC (Devipattnam) 111 for seven in 19.3 overs (Dharmendra two for 18, Kabilan three for 19).

Manish to lead

Manish Panday will lead South Zone in the Col. Hemu Adhikari Trophy inter-zonal under-19 cricket tournament at Bangalore from June 2 to 25.

Avinash triumphs

Avinash Ramanathan defeated Harish Ramakrishnan without much sweat to win 6-2, 6-4 in the under-16 boys’ singles finals at the CDTA-AITA Talent Series junior tennis tournament in Coimbatore on Friday.

Avinash’s big weapon is the forehand top-spin lob. And, he used it to a great extent to have Harish glued at the baseline. In fact, that made a huge difference in the contest.

In the under-16 girls’ final, K.S. Sangitha beat fifth seed A. Ankitha 6-3, 6-2 to take the honours.
