BANGALORE: It was a double delight for the Karnataka trio of S. Raghavendra, Rachita Sarda and Preethi Ujjini in the Sadhashivanagar Club-AITA Talent Series (under-14 & 16) junior tennis championship which concluded at the club courts here on Friday. The second seeded Raghavendra overcame a mid-match slump that was compounded by steady showers to defeat top seed Sagar Manjunath in the boys’ under-16 singles 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. Raghavendra had earlier won the doubles title partnering Hemanth Kumar. Rachita lifted the girls’ under-16 singles title outplaying Preethi Ujjini 6-1, 6-0 in the final. Later Rachita and Preethi won the doubles title. Preethi, earlier in the day, defeated seventh-seed Tejaswini C. Belludi in the under-14 singles final 7-5, 6-1.
Dr. Ashwath Narayana, MLA from Malleswaram Constituency, Amar Kumar Pandey, Commissioner of Youth Services and Sports, and Mr. C.S. Sunder Raju, secretary KSLTA, gave away the prizes. Mr. Ram Sanjeeva Reddy, president Sadhashivanagar Club presided. The results (finals): Boys: Under-16: singles: S. Raghavendra bt Sagar Manjunath 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. Doubles (mini-sets): Raghavendra & Hemanth Kumar bt Nikhil Reddy & D. Dabrai 4-2, 1-4, 15-13. Under-14: singles: Nikhil Reddy bt Ashok Kashyap 6-4, 6-3. Girls: Under-16: singles: Rachita Sarda bt Preethi Ujjini 6-1, 6-0. Doubles: Rachita & Preethi bt Pooja Patil & S.P. Ritu 5-3, 4-2. Under-14: singles: Preethi bt Tejaswini C. Belludi 7-5, 6-1.
