PUDUKOTTAI: Girls fared better than boys in both the SSLC and Matriculation public examinations held in March / April in the district. In the SSLC examination, the district registered a pass percentage of 75.7 per cent with 15,647 students (7,415 boys and 8,232 girls) coming out successfully out of the total 20,659 candidates (10,173 boys and 10,486 girls) who appeared for the examination. Girls outsmarted boys in their performance. While the pass percentage for girls was 78.5 per cent, the tally was 72.9 per cent for boys. Addressing the media here on Friday, the Chief Educational Officer S. Chellam said that in the Matriculation Examination also, girls performed better than boys. A total of 731 students (416 boys and 315 girls) took the examination of whom 687 (386 boys and 301 girls) passed, registering an overall pass percentage of 94.2. The pass percentage for boys and girls stood at 92.8 per cent and 95.6 per cent respectively, she said. The official said that in all 21 schools, including five government high schools, six aided schools and 10 matriculation schools registered cent per cent pass percentage. The Government High Schools in Nagarapatti near Ponnamaravathy; North Kulamangalam near Aranthangi; Maangadu and Maanjanviduthi both in Tiruvarankulam block and Kallur near Avudaiyarkovil secured cent per cent pass percentage. The private schools, which registered similar achievement were: The Sacred Heart Girls’ HSS in Pudukottai; St. Mary’s HSS in Thatchankurichi; MCTM Higher Secondary School in Kuzhipirai; Sivakami Ammal HSS in Rangiyam; St. Anne’s High School in Mudalipatti near Annavasal and Manickavasagar HSS, Pandipathiram near Avudaiyarkovil. The following 10 matriculation schools secured cent per cent pass percentage: Chidambaram HSS, Ponnamarvathy; PSK HSS; Mount Zion HSS; Vairam’s HSS; SFS HSS all in Pudukottai; National School; Vestley HSS; Meenatchi Nachiar Matric School, all in Aranthangi; Mary Immaculate High School at K Rasiamangalam village near Aranthangi and St. Xavier School Venkatakulam near Tiruvarankulam.
