Vote of confidence to be sought on June 6 Party felt this was unnecessary after Speaker’s election BANGALORE: It might be a long wait for the ministers in Mr. Yeddyurappa’s Cabinet to get portfolios. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa is likely to allocate portfolios to his 30-member ministerial team only after his Government wins the trust vote on the floor of the Assembly. Sources in the BJP told The Hindu that the ministers would get portfolios only after winning the motion of confidence to be moved tentatively on June 6. The sources said the BJP was of the view that the Speaker’s election scheduled to be held on June 5 would be an indication of strength of the BJP Government in the Assembly and that there was no need for a separate floor test. However, Governor Rameshwar Thakur was said to have insisted that Mr. Yeddyurappa should face a separate floor test after the Speaker’s election. The party believes that a floor test even after winning the Speaker’s election would result in duplication of work. Following such a view expressed by the Governor, the party government has decided to put on hold the process of allocation of portfolios till it wins the trust vote. Meanwhile, some prominent leaders, including party State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda and national general secretary are expected to go to Delhi on Saturday to attend the party national executive. The party has decided to constitute separate teams of ministers to monitor the day-to-day business of the Government, including the necessary steps to be taken for setting the stage ready for convening the legislature session and so on. Meanwhile, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa appointed Uday Holla as the Advocate-General soon after the swearing-in ceremony. PostingsSimilarly, senior IAS officer and Commerce and Industries Principal Secretary V.P. Baligar has been posted as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. Transport Commissioner Lakshminarayana has been posted as secretary to chief minister while Commercial Taxes Joint Commissioner S. Dayashankar has been posted as Private Secretary to the Chief Minister. Bijapur Deputy Commissioner B.G. Nandakumar had been appointed Deputy Secretary to the Chief Minister.
