Ramanathapuram gets 85 per cent pass

Ramanathapuram: Keeping up the trend girls fared better than boys in the SSLC examinations. The overall pass percentage for the district is 85. Out of 16,904 students, who appeared for the exams in the district, 14,375 emerged victorious. Out of 8,535 boys 7,115 have passed. The pass percentage of boys is 83.36. Among girls, out of 8,369 students 7,260 have passed, which works out to 86.75 per cent.

The first mark in the district is 490. The positive factor is that it has gone to a student of the Government Higher Secondary School, Thoruvalur near Ramanathapuram.

M. Anandi has got 97 in Tamil, 97 in English, 100 in Mathematics, 98 in Science and 98 in Social Science. The second rank went to G. Arun Pandian of Syed Ammal Higher Secondary School, who has secured 489 marks. Third rank went to two students. Marin Brinda, A.V.H.S. School, Paramakudi has secured 488 marks.

Another student Aaran Vallarasu of St. Arulanandar Higher Secondary School has shared the honours. The overall pass percentage is down by one per cent from 86 in 2006-07 to 85 in 2007-08.

V. Palanivelsamy, Chief Educational Officer, told ‘The Hindu’ that in spite of a few vacancies of Headmasters and teachers here and there, the district had done reasonably better. However, corrective measures would be taken to improve the overall percentage.

In the Matric examinations, out of 461 boys 421 emerged victorious. It works out to 92.19 percent. Similarly 407 girl students out of 432 have secured pass mark. The pass percentage of girls is 94.21. S. Faicha of National Academy secured 471 marks.

The second rank went to S. Renitha of National Academy and R. Vijay Subramani of Syed Ammal Matric Higher Secondary School and Pral Namesh Kannan of Islamiya Matric School got the third rank.
