Drop in pass percentage in Karur

KARUR: There was a marginal drop in the pass percentage in SSLC in Karur district this year. A total of 11.092 students took the SSLC exams from centers in Karur district of which 9,823 passed out successfully for a pass percentage of 88.56. Last year, the percentage was 89.87. However, S. Selvaraj, a student from the Rani Meyyammai Higher Secondary School, Puliyur, near here has brought laurels to the district bagging the Third rank in the State while securing a commendable 493 out of a possible 500 marks.

Hailing from Pazhaya Kanjamanur near here and son of Sundaramurthy, a science graduate who has taken to dairy farming, Selvaraj dedicated his achievement to his headmaster M. Mohanarangan, other teachers and his parents. He wanted to become a software engineer.

His marks tally read as follows: Tamil 96, English 99, Mathematics 100, Science 99 and Social Science 99, to give an aggregate of 493 out of 500.

He confessed that he was expecting a district rank while expressing his happiness that his endeavours have fetched him State laurels.

The second place in the district is shared by five students - four belong to the P.A. Vidhya Bhavan and one from the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Pugalur.

While V. Praveen Kumar, R. Keerhipriyan, R. Karthik and S. Sindhu scored 490 out of 500 to secure the joint second place in the district, B. Jeeva of the Government Girls HSS, Pugalur, scored the same marks to be placed on a par with them. However, she came out as the top ranked student from among government school students in the district.

P. Kathiravan of P.A. Vidhya Bhavan scored 489 out of 500 to bag the third position in the district. His father Periyasamy is a police Head Constable attached to the Palaviduthi Police Station in Karur district. In all, 5,577 boys and 5,515 girls from 132 schools in Karur district took the SSLC exams this year of which 4,804 boys and 5,019 girls came out successful.

The total pass percentage of 88.56 is marginally lower at 1.31 per cent than last year’s 89.87 per cent.
