THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The supply of drinking water to areas coming under the Peroorkada zone of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) was disrupted on Friday night after pumping from the authority’s old treatment plant at Aruvikkara was stopped soon after 10 p.m. The pumping was stopped to facilitate repairs on a leaking 1,200-mm cast iron pipeline supplying water to the Peroorkada reservoir. Even though a leak had been detected in this line a few days ago, officials of the authority were able to pinpoint the location of the leak only on Friday night. Intermittent rain delayed the commencement of the repairs. Work on the line continued late into the night. Earlier, Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran who visited the KWA treatment facility at Aruvikkara said normal pumping of water from Aruvikkara was continuing despite the leak. Connection to hotel cutOfficials of the KWA cut the water connection given to a hotel complex at Thycaud for violation of monthly consumption limit of drinking water. C. Suresh Babu, Managing Director of the authority, said here that the hotel, on preliminary inquiry, was found to have violated the consumption limit of 30 kilolitres a month.
