Police say plot foiled following information from ruling front politicians Say conspirators met absconding ‘gang leader’ Om Prakash in Dubai Thiruvananthapuram: A conspiracy hatched in Dubai to kill a top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary in the district in retaliation for the murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activist ‘Vanchiyoor’ Vishnu has been uncovered, the city police said on Saturday. Officials said they thwarted the conspiracy on the basis of information passed on by certain ruling front politicians who wanted to avoid further CPI(M)-RSS clashes in the district. They said the conspirators, including two of Vishnu’s relatives and a CPI(M) activist at Shanghumughom, met absconding ‘gang leader’ Om Prakash in Dubai this month. (Om Prakash is wanted in connection with a gangland murder.) The police said the conspirators enlisted the help of Ambalamukku Krishnakumar, another wanted man, to avenge Vishnu’s murder. A police team led by Circle Inspectors R. Mahesh and K.E. Baiju arrested Krishnakumar on Friday. The suspect is accused in two gang-related revenge killings. While in jail as a remand prisoner, Krishnakumar and alleged gang leader ‘Karate’ Suresh had been booked on the charge of ordering a country bomb attack on a prison warden. He is also wanted in connection with the retaliatory attack on RSS activist Mohanan near Kaithamukku on April 19. The police said Vishnu’s murder was not purely political, though most of the suspects were RSS men. A senior investigator said Harilal, who was arrested on Thursday on the charge of harbouring Vishnu’s killers, profited from selling earth to builders reclaiming wetlands for construction. Vishnu and Harilal were rivals in the business. He said Harilal and Manoj, another suspect in Vishnu’s murder, were alleged to have close links with ‘Attingal’ Ayyappan, a wanted man suspected to be in Dubai. The police had initially investigated Ayyapan, along with another alleged gang leader, ‘Kalpana’ Suresh, in connection with Vishnu’s murder. Investigators said the plot would come to light fully with the arrest of a key conspirator.
