Order to provide reservation for minority communities

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday issued orders to provide 3.5 per cent reservation each to Muslims and Christians in typist, stenographer and other posts to be filled under Group IV of the Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission (TNPSC).

The government had promulgated an ordinance in September 15, 2008, to provide reservation for Muslims and Christians. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had announced that the government would rectify all the practical difficulties facing the implementation of the reservation.

On Friday, the Chief Minster chaired a meeting that took a decision to follow reservation in TNPSC jobs. Electricity Minster Arcot N. Veeraswami, PWD and Law Minister Durai Murugan, State Social Reforms Committee Chairman Justice A.K. Rajan, TNPSC Chairman A.M. Kasi Viswanathan, Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department Secretary T.S. Sridhar, Backward Classes and Minorities Department Secretary N. Vasudevan and Law Secretary S. Dheenadayalan attended.
