Police: Talwar not cooperating

Staff Reporter

NOIDA: Rajesh Talwar, accused of killing his daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, was on Friday sent back to judicial custody at the end of a three-day police remand.

Dr. Talwar was handed over to Dasna jail authorities in Ghaziabad around 4 p.m., a few hours before his remand period was to end.

As the police did not seek further remand, Dr. Talwar will have to spend seven more days in jail to complete the 14-day judicial remand ordered by a local court on May 23.

The accused had already spent four days in judicial custody and three days in police remand.

Police sources said there was little point in seeking extension of the remand, as the accused was not cooperating.

Refuting the charge, defence counsel Mahender Pratap Singh said: “The police have failed to produce any clinching evidence against Dr. Talwar in the form of weapon used to commit offence or the blood-stained clothes to substantiate the murder charges. The police are attempting to frame an innocent man.”

Police plea

However, the police have submitted an application in court for conducting narco-analysis and brain mapping tests on Dr. Talwar. The matter is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.

The police have insisted that scientific tests were needed to crack the case, as the accused was “not coming out” with any substantial disclosure.

On Friday morning, a police team took Dr. Talwar to Hardwar in search of the weapon used to commit the offence and other possible evidence.

The police are also learnt to have questioned the head priest of the temple who supervised the performance of the last rites.

They reportedly asked the priest about the date and time of the girl’s death entered in his records.
