Vilayat Khan’s kin charged with sexual assault

NEW YORK: Sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan’s nephew has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor girl in Philadelphia. Shafaatullah Khan case came up for hearing in a court in Bridgeport on Wednesday. Mr. Khan, a Pennsylvania resident who teaches classical music, has been charged of corruption of a minor, indecent assault and sexual offences.

The girl said Mr. Khan, who taught her keyboard lessons, molested her and made sexual comments. The girl said she told him to stop doing such things and he complied. She did not tell her parents until a year later. Then, she provided the police with e-mails in which she had confided to her friends.— PTI
