Kerala girls enter final

BHILWARA: Sumathi top-scored with 27 points as Kerala defeated Maharashtra 72-39 in the girls’ semifinals of the 59th National junior basketball championship here on Friday. Liji Mol was the other main scorer for Kerala with 15 points.

Earlier, defending champion Delhi outclassed Tamil Nadu 69-27 in the boys’ quarterfinals.

The Delhi girls, runners-up in the last edition, were equally forceful in outplaying Madhya Pradesh 65-36 for a place in the semifinals. Chhattisgarh was the other team to make the semifinals in both the events.

Other results: Boys: Quarterfinals: Punjab 88 (Rajan Sharma 24, Parminder 24, Lovedeep Singh 23) bt Rajasthan 74 (Hirender Singh 28, G. Varghese 18); Delhi 69 (Somveer 16, Sunil 12, Sachin 11, Mousam Singh 11) bt Tamil Nadu 27.

Girls: Semifinals: Kerala 72 (Smriti 29, Liji Mol 16, Sheeja 10) bt Uttar Pradesh 50 (Renu 10). Quarterfinals: Delhi 65 (Pratima Singh 20, Sonika 11, Niharika 10) bt Madhya Pradesh 36 (Sukhpreet 12).
