Lessons in adventure sports

PUDUCHERRY: This summer vacation was a different experience for children, especially those living close to the Lawspet Helipad ground.

They took a break from routine sports and familiarised themselves with different events, some of them alien, till Saturday.

The Tourism Department, together with the National Adventure Foundation, lined up an array of events on the Lawspet Helipad ground to take adventure sports to children of non-metros.

The star of the events was Zorbing, a Kiwi invention, in which people get strapped inside in an inflated balloon and spin around the ground in a virtual anti-gravity form of weightlessness.

Another event that saw the maximum participation of children was Bungee Trampoline. The acrobatics team of the foundation displayed their skills in para-sailing, para-motor flying and kite flying.

Shayamala Jayashankar, Director of the foundation, said the event would be conducted at the helipad on Sunday morning from 7 a.m. From 3. 30 p.m., water sports such as banana boat ride, water ski, kayaking and windsurfing would be held at the Chunnambar water sports complex.
