VIJAYAWADA: People with anxiety, stress and depression are more prone to serious heart problems and high blood pressure, according to Vikram Kumar Yeragani, a professor of psychiatry in the U.S. and Canada. Dr. Yeragani said at a press conference on Saturday that in his research, he found that the cardiovascular problems had a relationship with stress and anxiety. Serious cardiovascular episodes or events like heart attacks and strokes, and sudden death in cardiac, diabetic and other groups of patients, could be predicted with some new non-invasive tests, he said. Dr. Yeragani said the data obtained from some tests that include beat-to-beat HR variability, BP variability, QT variability and the like would help predict cardiovascular problems. “These techniques have been found to be useful in assessing cardiovascular health and are not to be regarded as replacement to the existing, conventional practices that are in vogue today,” he said. He had set up Cardiovascular Health and Diagnostics Private Limited (CH&D) at Bangalore after returning from the U.S. a few years ago. Now, to extend similar facilities in the city, Dr. Yeragani had set up Mind and Heart Research Centre.
