Nehru decries Naidu’s language

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: Kankipadu MLA Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru) on Saturday observed that the language used by TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao during the campaign for byelections in Telangana was the prime reason for the sudden drop in voter turnout.

He said that the language being used by the two leaders was creating an aversion among people to politics and political leaders.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Nehru criticised the various statements Mr. Naidu was making at the public meetings he was addressing as part of the ongoing ‘Meekosam’ programme in Krishna district. Mr. Nehru said he was advising Mr. Naidu to stop using objectionable language, as it did not suit his stature.

He said it was high time Mr. Naidu understood that public knew the facts about the difference between the developmental works launched by the Congress Government and the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government.

“People are laughing at Mr. Naidu whenever he is speaking about farmers, weavers, potters and other deprived sections, whom he totally neglected during his nine-year tenure as Chief Minister.

We wonder how he can speak about agriculture and irrigation, the sectors that were subjected to negligence during his rule,” Mr. Nehru said.

NTR’s name

Referring to Mr. Naidu’s claim that the credit of sanctioning the Pulichintala irrigation project belonged to the TDP, Mr. Nehru wanted to know whether the TDP had sanctioned more than Rs. 5 lakhs during any financial year for the project.

“Mr. Naidu has no irrigation policy even today. How can we expect such a policy from a person who said that agriculture is a waste?” he asked.

Finding fault with TDP leaders for invoking NTR’s name, Mr. Nehru said Mr. Naidu had no right even to utter the name of the late leader.
