BERHAMPUR: Attempts to arrest a stage actor, who had criminal cases against him led to a clash between villagers of K. Barida and Angargaon with the police in Beguniapada block on Friday evening. Three policemen were injured in the clash. Two platoons of armed police had to be deployed in these villages. Police identified 13 persons who led the clash. Eight of them were arrested. Tension began when a police team tried to arrest one Bijay Jena of Angargaon village. He had several criminal cases pending against him. But Bijay was to act in Ramlila which was to be held at nearby K.Barida village on Friday evening as part of the Chandan festival. When police tried to arrest Bijay from the spot where the Ramlila was to enacted, they were opposed by the co-actors as well as villagers. A clash occurred in which three policemen received minor injuries. With extra police force reaching the spot from Kodala, the policemen were able to arrest Bijay and rounded up some others.
