PUDUCHERRY: Indian Bank on Friday convened a special meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee to discuss the modalities in the implementation of agricultural debt waiver and debt relief scheme in the Union Territory. Indian Bank Deputy General Manager and convener of committee K. Rajan said that by June 30, the scheme had to be implemented so that eligible farmers would be able to avail themselves of fresh loans from July 1. The director of Planning, Government of Puducherry, M. Shreedharan, appealed to the field-level functionaries to create awareness of the scheme among farmers. The Assistant General Manager of NABARD, R. Muralidharan, said that elaborate guidelines had been issued by the Union government about the implementation of the scheme. NABARD was in the process of preparing the Tamil version of the guidelines. Others who addressed the meet included the Chief Manager and Lead District Manager of Indian Bank, J. Chandrasekaran, and the Senior Manager (Agriculture) of Indian Bank, R. Raj.
