Prakash misses the bus

Staff Correspondent

KOLAR: The upbeat mood in MLA Varthur Prakash’s camp on Friday dropped by afternoon as he failed to make it to the Ministry.

Mr. Prakash, an independent MLA from Kolar, was tipped to become a Minister as he extended support to the Bharatiya Janata Party which fell short of three members for a simple majority. Although Mr. Prakash had announced earlier that he would not support the BJP, he changed his mind later. His statement against the BJP that it was a “communal” party and his announcement later that he was ready to back the Congress if Siddaramaiah was made the Chief Minister, was believed to have gone against him. The RSS leaders from Varthur region in Bangalore, from where Mr. Prakash hails, reportedly pressured the BJP leadership against providing a ministerial berth to him.

MLC and Minister Janardhan Reddy had assured Mr. Prakash of a Ministerial post during the expansion of the Yeddyurappa Ministry shortly, it is learnt.
