Welfare for captive elephants

Bangalore: A recent study conducted by the Wildlife Trust of India found that many captive elephants — in forest camps, temples and those used for tourism and ceremonial occasions — suffer from anaemia and dehydration.

Three agencies have together compiled a document chalking out welfare parameters for the captive elephants.

It includes tips regarding the size of its shelter, hygiene, drinking water, chaining and vaccinations.
