Free cardiac check-up camp for elders

SHIMLA: Max Heart and Vascular Institute of Delhi organised a free cardiac check-up camp for senior citizens at the request of the State Pensioners’ Association here on Saturday.

A large number of elderly people got their ECG, blood sugar and blood pressure checked free of cost by the institute’s doctors.

Dr. Praveen Chandra, Director of Cath Lab, said the institute is also engaged in a study of increasing cases of heart trouble in the hill areas.

A number of children in the hills are developing rheumatic heart diseases due to closed environs and paucity of open spaces in the hills, he said, adding, “The stress levels here have also increased.”
