Air India hikes fuel surcharge
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: To cope with the situation arising out of an increase in the prices of the Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), Air India on Saturday announced an increase in the fuel surcharge in two slabs for domestic travel.
Air India decided to impose Rs. 300 a passenger for flights that have destinations up to 750 km and Rs. 550 a passenger for flights covering over 750 km.
The new rates will come into effect from June 3.
“This rise will help offset only a part of the additional liability being imposed on the airline by the latest hike in jet fuel prices,” an Air India spokesman told The Hindu.
Private and low-cost carriers are also likely to follow suit. The last upward revision was in May.
