RJD: sack S.K. Modi
Special Correspondent
PATNA: Even as BJP dissidents are campaigning for the removal of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, the RJD on Saturday demanded his dismissal from the Cabinet in the wake of a court ruling in a defamation case.
RJD spokesman Shyam Razak expressed surprise that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar continued to retain Mr. Modi after the Delhi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate slapped a fine on him for his unsavoury remarks against economist Mohan Guruswamy.
After Mr. Modi tendered an apology, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh.
Mr. Modi had accused Mr. Guruswamy of writing an article, for pecuniary considerations, that was critical of the step-motherly treatment meted out to Bihar by the Vajpayee government in providing aid. Mr. Guruswamy was the economic advisor to the then Union Finance Minister, Yashwant Sinha.
