Kayalpatnam: Dindigul and Tiruvallur entered the finals of the 17th Tamil Nadu State youth (U-17) football championship for A.G. Subburaman Memorial Cup in contrasting style here on Saturday. Dindigul had to struggle hard to upset defending champion, Chennai 5-3 via tie breaker, after the teams were locked goalless, while Tiruvallur had a comfortable 3-0 victory over Vellore in the semifinals. Fine crossDilip Kumar put Tiruvallur ahead with a 5th minute strike. In the 13th minute Anandaraj made his way on the right flank and sent a fine cross and the ball landed straight into the net. Sam Abishek, who was about to score in the 63rd minute was tripped by Raja inside the penalty area. Sam made no mistake off the resultant penalty kick. In the other semifinal, Chennai, which had the better of exchanges, could have won but for squandering many easy chances. In the tie breaker, all the five — Jaffer, Karthikeyan, Sheik Mohamed, Raguramkumar and Rajalingam scored for Dindigul. Pradeep, Wayne and Ashwin converted for the loser. Asiatic CA triumphsG. Santhosh’s five for 17 and an unbeaten 64 by Jeya Bharath Veeran helped Asiatic Cricket Academy (Chennai) defeat Jaffer Cricket Academy (Erode) for its third win in the last match of the four-team league in the State-level Invitation inter-cricket academy tournament and lift the Vignesh Sports Trophy at Dindigul on Saturday. Jaffer Academy finished runner-up losing only to Asiatic Academy. Orange Shirts Academy (Dindigul) finished third with its only win over PSNA Cricket Academy. The scores: Asiatic CA 168 for four in 25 overs (Jeya Bharath Veeran 64 n.o., S. Srinath 36, S. Chandrasekar 30) bt Jaffer CA (Erode) 107 in 21.4 overs (E. Vivek 26, G. The scores (final): Majestic CC 68 in 15 overs (Lendle Pascal five for 16, Mahesh three for 12) lost to Syed Ammal EC 69 for three in 10.2 overs (Silambarasan 33, Ram Ganesh 28 n.o.).
