Teenager shoots herself over love affair

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Apparently miffed at her parents’ opposition to her relationship with a classmate, a 17-year-old school girl allegedly shot herself at New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi on Saturday. The incident took place even as her parents were busy convincing the boy to end the relationship.

According to the police, the families of the girl and the boy had set up a meeting near Smriti Van in New Ashok Nagar to sort out the issue. While the girl’s father was talking to the boy, the girl was sitting inside the car. Apparently her father, a property dealer, had managed to convince the boy not to continue with the affair and the boy had agreed.

Hospitalised

The girl apparently did not like this and pulled out her father’s licensed revolver from the dashboard of the car and shot herself in the temple, the police said. The father rushed her to a Noida hospital where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The doctors describe her condition as critical.
