Thiruvananthapuram: The Revenue Department on Saturday took possession of 6.83 acres in Attipra village following a move by certain quarters to appropriate the property using fabricated documents. ‘For public purpose’Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said the land was estimated to cost Rs.28 crore. “It is the first time in recent years that the government has recovered a property this big. It will be used for public purpose,” he said. District Collector Sanjay Kaul; Additional District Magistrate V. Sivarajan Nair; and other Revenue officials were present to take possession of the land in Poundukadavu ward between Pettah and Kazhakuttam. During the British rule, the property originally belonged to the then Museum director A.J. Viera and John Pierre. There was no one to inherit the plot after the demise of the owners. The decision to take possession of the property was based on information provided by the Revenue Department that certain persons were trying to appropriate the land using fabricated documents.
