Telemedicine facility for NLC hospital
Special Correspondent
NEYVELI: The Neyveli Lignite Corporation-run general hospital at Neyveli is now equipped with telemedicine facility. This forms part of the Rs. 4.5-crore integrated hospital management system put up in the hospital.
Inaugurating the system on Wednesday, Mr. Jayaraman said the 355-bed hospital treated on an average10 lakh outpatients annually, of whom one-fourth were contract labourers and people from neighbouring villages.
About 500 persons, including 65 doctors, were in the employ of the hospital. He said the integrated hospital management system, designed by Tata Consultancy Services, would speed up health care delivery.
It would also reduce the clerical work of the medical staff. Of the 25 facilities to be created under the system, the significant one was telemedicine facility.
In the case of chronically ill patients, who could not be taken to specialists, the medical reports could be sent online to the specialists concerned to get their expert opinion and accordingly give the treatment.
This would help save many lives, he said.
Appreciating the health services rendered by the NLC to contract labourers and villagers, the Indian Space Research Organisation had offered technology for the telemedicine facility free of cost.
