PUDUCHERRY: A special police team on Saturday conducted raids at several places in Bahour Commune Panchayat area and seized 440 containers of rectified spirit, each containing 35 litres, from Kuruvinatham and Mullai Nagar, B. Srikanth Senior Superintendent of Police (Crime and Intelligence) said. Mr. Srikanth, who is holding the additional in-charge of Law and Order, said the spirit was worth around Rs. 30 lakh outside. The raid comes in the wake of an attack on an Excise team on Thursday night allegedly by bootleggers, led by vice-president of Bahour Commune Panchayat Thavamurugan. Head Constable Balakrishnan, who sustained grievous head injuries, was shifted to a private hospital in Chennai on Saturday. The police said they had launched a hunt for Thavamurugan.
