Price rise will lead to UPA’s downfall: MP

Special Correspondent

KADAPA: The unbridled price rise will lead to the downfall of the UPA government, Rajya Sabha member C. Ramachandraiah said on Saturday.

The Central government enhanced petrol and diesel prices on seven occasions and people were facing untold hardships, he told a press conference here.

He charged the Central Government with importing crude oil and selling petrol and diesel to consumers with an expenditure of Rs. 78 crore. This accrued a revenue of Rs. 75 crore to the Government, he said.

The Government was earning revenue whenever petrol and diesel prices were hiked, he alleged.

Mr. Ramachandraiah urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to reduce cess on oil companies and direct the Central and State Governments to reduce their tax. He asked economists to suggest alternative plans to curtail price rise.

He also condemned the registering of a case under Section 307 IPC on TDP State secretary Ameer Babu, who went to RIMS to console a rape attempt victim.

Former MLA R. Ramesh Kumar Reddy and party leader Nazeer Ahmed participated.
