Chennai: Aparajitha Balamurukan (girls’ under-15) and Kush Kumar (boys’ u-13) did India proud by claiming the titles in the Milo All Star Malaysian junior open squash championships in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Aparajitha, seeded 5/8, defeated the third seed Ka Yie Lee (Hong Kong) 9-5, 9-4, 2-9, 6-9, 9-5 in the quarterfinals, eliminated the second seed Dijo Sarah Sexton (Australia) 5-9, 10-8, 9-7, 9-0 before beating Jemyca Aribado (Philippines) 9-1, 7-9, 9-3, 9-3 for her maiden title. Kush beat Man Ho Tse (Hong Kong) 9-3, 9-2, 9-7 in the last eight stage, then got past the second seed Ka Ho Pang (Singapore) 9-7, 9-5, 9-6 and in the final defeated Cheuk Hin Lo Chris (Hong Kong) 1-9, 9-4, 10-9, 9-0. Ravi Dixit, another trainee at the ICL Squash Academy, won the boys’ u-17 silver. He lost to Pakistan’s Danish Atlas Khan 0-9, 2-9, 0-9 in the final. Anwesha Reddy won the bronze in the girls’ u-17 and Roshan Kumarakanna took the fourth place in the boys’ u-11 section.
