CBI begins probe into Noida double murder case

25-member team of CBI officials, forensic experts survey the Talwar house

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday began a probe into the murder of 14-year-old school girl Aarushi and the family’s domestic help Hemraj in Noida about a fortnight ago.

The Noida police had earlier arrested Aarushi’s dentist-father Rajesh Talwar for his alleged involvement in the killings.

The CBI registered a First Information Report on Saturday after receiving a notification from the Union government, following a formal request by the Uttar Pradesh government for transfer of the case. No one has been named in the FIR.

Soon after the CBI took over investigations on Sunday, paramilitary personnel were deployed and barricades erected around Dr. Talwar’s Sector 25 residence in Noida to prevent any unauthorised entry during examination of the crime scene.

Around 11.30 a.m., a 25-member team led by CBI Joint Director (Special Crime) Arun Kumar along with the Director of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory and the Head of the Department (Forensic Medicine) of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences reached the house. Aarushi’s mother Nupur Talwar had gone to meet her husband at Dasna jail in Ghaziabad.

While the Noida police were asked to hand over the case diary containing details of investigations, the joint team of CBI officials and forensic experts closely examined the scene of crime — Aarushi’s room and the terrace where Hemraj’s body was found. The team spent over six hours in the house in a bid to piece together evidence, if any, still left intact.

Nupur returned home around 12.45 p.m. after which she joined investigations. It is learnt that the CBI officials informally questioned her regarding the sequence of events leading up to the discovery of the bodies.

The CBI’s priority would be to identify the motive behind the murders.

“The murder weapon and the mobile phones of the victims are yet to be traced,” said an official.
