When a dream came true for Geetha

Staff Reporter

NEW LIFE: Gopalakrishnan and Geetha Santhi who got married on Sunday.

KOCHI: Leaving behind days of loneliness, Geetha Santhi, started a new chapter in her life on Sunday. Holding her hands, Gopalakrishnan vowed to walk along with her through thick and thin of life.

Ms. Santhi, a resident of the Palluruthy Relief Settlement (PRS) for the last eight years, got married to Mr. Gopalakrishnan at Ponnethu Temple on Sunday. After tying the nuptial knot at the Temple, the couple moved to PRS, where they exchanged garlands. Mercy Williams, Kochi Mayor, performed the kanyadan at the Settlement.

Ms. Santhi, a native of Madhya Pradesh, has now become the daughter or rather daughter-in-law of Kerala.

She speaks good Malayalam and is a skilled artist in fabric painting. A large number of kind-hearted persons came together to support the couple as they entered a new phase of their life with the support of the Kochi Corporation and the People’s Council for Social Justice (PCSJ).

A catering group in the city gave a feast to around 600 persons who assembled to shower blessings on the couple. Jewellers, textile shops and traders also rose to the occasion and chipped in with their contributions.

Those who graced the occasion included C. M. Dinesh Mani, MLA, C. K. Manisankar, Deputy Mayor, M. P. R. Nair, secretary of the PCSJ, P. K. Shamsudheen, chairman of Welfare Standing Committee of the Kochi Corporation.

“Now, our aim is to put some money for her in a bank account after buying her an almirah, cot and bed,” said Bitty Joseph, project manager of the PCSJ.
