Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Sunday directed senior officials not to lodge FIRs against traders under relevant section of Essential Commodities Act during de-hoarding campaign. “The government has directed officers not to lodge FIRs against traders under section 3/7 of Essential Commodities Act,” Ms. Mayawati told reporters. The decision was taken after various traders’ organisations had raised their apprehensions that the act would be misused and they could be exploited. Ms. Mayawati said her government was committed to ensure availability of essential commodities and directives in this regard had been issued to the District Magistrates.
