Hubli-Dharwad
It will take up a survey of girls’ hostels run by Department of Social Welfare HUBLI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad will organise nationwide discussions and seminars on the second report of the National Knowledge Commission, this year. National unit general secretary of the ABVP Suresh Bhat told presspersons here on Sunday that a decision to this effect was taken in the national executive committee meeting which concluded in Hubli on Saturday. Mr. Bhat said the ABVP had organised discussions on the first report of the commission. Although the organisation had welcomed certain recommendations of the commission, it had objections to several other proposals, he said. Apart from the issue of commercialisation of the education system, the ABVP would be taking up the issue of “neglect” of higher education in the country owing to dearth of qualified faculty. The parishad would launch a movement to demand appointment of qualified faculty in higher education institutions, Mr. Bhat said. He said the organisation would urge the Union Government to take steps to hold elections to students’ unions in colleges and universities according to the recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee. The ABVP would be taking up a survey of girls’ hostels run by the Department of Social Welfare, this year, he said. Mr. Bhat said the committee had decided to raise the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators once again and create awareness among students on the issue by organising an awareness week from August 7. The ABVP would be organising “Akhanda Bharat Sankalp Din” on August 14, he added.. ‘Check spiralling prices’The committee has urged the Union Government to formulate an action plan to check spiralling prices of essential commodities. National secretary of the ABVP G. Laxman told presspersons here on Saturday that the committee had passed a resolution in this regard. He said the ABVP would urge the Government to take seriously the problems of farmers and initiate programmes to aid them. Mr. Laxman added that the ABVP would also demand the Government to control operations of multinational companies and private operators which, he alleged, were indulging in hoarding of essential commodities. He said the Government had failed to help a majority of the farmers who had taken loans from moneylenders.
