PALAKKAD: Keral Pradesh Textile Mazdoor Federation, affiliated to the Bharathiya Mazdoor Sangh, has demanded that the government reopen the closed textile mills in the State. A statement by federation president S. Dorairaj here on Sunday said that eight mills in Kerala and 462 mills in the country had been closed. The closed mills in the State were in the Kanjikode and Aluva industrial belts. The federation urged the government to distribute benefits to the workers of the closed mills under the Textile Workers Rehabilitation Fund of the Central government. It said that a large number of workers were not getting the benefits under the scheme because of some of its conditions. The law should be amended to provide benefits to all those workers.
