Rahul Gandhi meets Karunakaran

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi met the veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran here on Sunday and held a detailed discussion about organisational matters.

This is the first time Mr. Gandhi has interacted at such length with the former Chief Minister.

Mr. Karunakaran’s daughter, Padmaja Venugopal, was present at the meeting and it is understood that the ageing leader raised the issue of rehabilitating his supporters in the organisational structure of the party in Kerala, particularly the Youth Congress and other frontal organisations of which Mr. Gandhi has overall charge.

Later in the day, Mr. Karunakaran met party in-charge of Kerala Mohsina Kidwai to discuss the fate of his loyalists. Mr. Karunakaran visited Defence Minister A.K. Antony at his residence to enquire about his health.
