Pulichintala work needs to be expedited, says Minister

Ramesh Susarla

Status report obtained from project Superintending Engineer

Need to concrete 40,000 cubic metres by June-end, says Minister

Sufficient material yet to arrive for fabricating gates

MADIPADU: Four days ahead of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s visit to the Pulichintala Multipurpose Project (K.L. Rao Sagar) site Minister for Transport Kanna Lakshmi Narayana expressed concern over the slow progress of work on the project.

The quantum of work being executed by contractors Joint Venture Srinivasa Constructions and CR18G was abysmally low, necessary equipment needed to be acquired, enough raw material stocked and more number of workers deployed, Mr. Lakshmi Narayana said on Sunday after getting the status report from project Superintending Engineer S. Satyanarayana. "We need to achieve a target of concreting 40,000 cubic meters by the end of June for impounding 2 tmc of water taking the dam level to 33 meters," said the SE.

Need for crusher

The contractor needs to get an additional crusher on the site, get the telebelt repaired to improve its efficiency and shift it to Guntur side from Nalgond side of the project site, and deploy additional tippers for quick completion of the work and stick to the schedule, otherwise that could attract financial penalty also, said the Minister. "I will take the progress of work to the notice of the Chief Minister and ensure that steps were initiated by the Government to speed up work through the contractors, who were issued notice on May 9 for slow progress," he added.

Joint Venture partner, which was supposed to execute the work on sluice gates and river sluice gates was yet to get the material to the site to speed up work.

With the available material the project engineers were getting the river sluice gates manufactured that would be installed at the power house portion and at blocks 29 to 32.

Progress on concreting the foundation and bringing it up to crest level on the Guntur side was slow with blocks 33 to 37 on Madipadu side between 24 meter level and 29 meter level and blocks 28 to 32 were yet to be tackled or were at the foundation level (river bed). The contractors and the SE expressed the hope that crest level (36 meters level) for the entire project site might be achieved by year-end from where the piers had to be raised and sluice gates installed. Individual members of the gates were being fabricated at the site, for which material was yet to arrive in sufficient quantum. The Minister also inspected the site for organising Rythu Sadassu on the Madipadu side of Pulichintala Project on June 5 during Chief Minister’s visit.
