Makkal Sindhanai Peravai to document Kongu region writers and their works

Staff Reporter

ERODE: Makkal Sindhanai Peravai, a thinkers’ forum, has launched an ambitious project to document and publish details about writers and their works.

Announcing the details of the scheme at a press meet here on Saturday, T. Stalin Gunasekaran of the Peravai said all writers, living and dead, from Coimbatore, The Nilgris, Erode, Karur, Namakkal and Salem will be in the compendium, which would also have a brief write-up on their contributions along with publications.

Aim

The aim of the project, he said, was to bring to light hitherto unknown contributors, showcase the literary richness of the area and also provide information to the literati.

He, however, hastened to add that all and sundry writers and works would not be included and that the writer and works would be screened. Essentially, the contributions should be novel, short stories, research papers or poetry in Tamil.

Mr. Gunasekaran said the thinkers’ forum chose Kongu region because Erode was too small a region to launch such a project and Tamil Nadu too big.

He said after the success of the current venture, the body would think of Tamil Nadu.

The compendium would be complemented by a virtual one in the form of a web page. He said negotiations were on to discuss the modalities.

He hoped to complete the work in six months’ time with about 1,000 books. So far he had got about 300 books.

Mr. Gunasekaran added that writers were welcome to send in their contributions and could get in touch with him at D-14, Sampath Nagar, Erode 638 011.
