VIJAYAWADA: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy on Sunday assured the farmers of Krishna district that a GO would be issued in a week to pay Rs.25 crores compensation to mango farmers who suffered heavy losses due to unseasonal rains in the district a few months back. Addressing a meeting of farmers as part of Rythu Chaitanya Yatras at Gollapudi here, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said small and marginal farmers of black gram, who lost heavily due to unseasonal rains, would also be paid compensation. The Government was making efforts to procure huge machinery to crush sugarcane, for which Rs.500 crores would be spent. Of this, Rs.200 crores would be the subsidy component. The Minister said the benefits of the loan waiver announced recently by the Central Government would be totally passed on to all the farmers and the entire process would be completed before the end of the current month. He said this loan waiver was, indeed, a boon for the farmers, who were suffering because of various reasons. The Minister also assured the farmers of positively looking into the possibility of passing on the benefit of loan waiver to those who were repaying loans without fail. “Our Chief Minister has been working on this. All those farmers who are promptly repaying the loans will be suitably rewarded and this will be done soon,” he said. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said the Government was committed to the welfare of the farmers and more land would be brought under agriculture in the coming days because of the effective and positive policies of the Government. He maintained that the problem of scarcity of pesticides was there all over the world and efforts were being made on the behalf of the Central Government to overcome this by importing pesticide from other countries. However, there was no scarcity of zinc phosphate and super phosphate. Addressing the media later, he said the by-elections results had proved that there was no sentiment or any other such factor.
