Power plant boilers tested

JAIPUR: The hydraulic experiments on the boilers installed in the new units of Kota and Suratgarh super thermal power projects under construction in Rajasthan were conducted successfully over the week-end. The construction of the seventh unit of 195 MW in Kota and sixth unit of 250 MW in Suratgarh is in full swing.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Rajsthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, S.K. Kalla, said here that all the joints in the boiler tubes were found fit with no leakage. There are as many as 11,500 joints in the Kota boiler and 12,500 in Suratgarh.

Mr. Kalla said the hydraulic experiments were conducted at a very high pressure of 266 kg per square cm in Kota and 273.5 kg per square cm in Suratgarh. Both the units are likely to start power production by the year-end.

Mr. Kalla said the Kota boiler would produce steam measuring 690 tonnes an hour and Suratgarh 810 tonnes an hour on the two units becoming fully operational. After the completion of hydraulic experiments, work relating to boiler insulation, laying of steam, oil and coal pipelines and installation of other gadgets will be taken up. The capacity of the Kota and Suratgarh power projects will go up to 1,500 MW and 1,240 MW, respectively, after the construction of their new units.
