Kozhikode: The Norway-based Jotun Group, one of the leading manufacturers of paints in the world, has opened three exclusive retail outlets in the Kozhikode region. The outlets are at Kozhikode, Payyannur and Perinthalmanna. Innovative facilitiesAt present, the group has eight retail outlets, including at Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Kannur, Nadapuram, Vadakara and Tirur in the region. It plans to set up 15 exclusive paint showrooms by the end of 2008. These showrooms, known as multi-colour centres, offer a wide range of innovative facilities to customers. Jotun India General Manager (Decorative) Percy Jijina said north Kerala was a big market and the expansion plans would strengthen the presence of the company in the State. ‘Big market’The decorative paint industry in the State is estimated at Rs.500 crore, with north Kerala accounting for Rs.200 crore, he said. The group manufactures decorative paints, industrial paints, marine coatings and powder coatings. The Indian paint industry is growing at 17 per cent a year. However, the per capita consumption of paint in the country is only 1.2 kg per annum, when compared to 12 kg in the Southeast Asian nations and 22 kg in the developed countries.
