For a cause: People taking part in Summersalt, a fund-raising effort, in Bangalore.

BANGALORE: A daylong festival of art, theatre, music and food for a fund-raising effort brightened an otherwise overcast Saturday. Origami, a creative communications agency, hosted “Summersalt” in aid of Spoorthi, an organisation that helps the socially, economically and academically deprived people belonging to the Koraga community of Dakshina Kannada.

Spoorthi’s efforts are focused on educating the younger members of the Koraga community, and instilling mental and spiritual confidence in them.

“Summersalt” was a blast of colour and fun as the Origami office on Railway Parallel Road wore a festive look. Artists, musicians, chefs, dancers, designers and performers from within the agency shared space with professional talent from across the country.

The festival showcased installations and paintings by artist Kalyan Singh Rathore who used the trees at Origami’s office and other naturally available objects at the workspace to display his work. Shomil Shah exhibited photographs that were in the form of quadruples. Intricate designs by paper modeller Atamjeet Singh Bawa drew admiring comments as did Anjali Gonsalves’s mixed media paintings in brilliant colours.

Watercolour paintings by Smiju T.K. intrigued everyone with their use of blade scratch technique.

Apart from this, En Construccion, a spin-off from Christ College’s official band, rocked the day. Rafiki, a theatre group, also participated with two of its members Anish and Sachin performing “Sheer and Utter Nonsense” and “Woza Albert!”

Arka and Joshua from the Logos Theatre performed a devised piece. Visitors had a chance to try their luck at the theatre games stall and get their fortunes told. Shoppers indulged themselves at the pan-India spices counter, flea market and at the home décor ideas counter.

There was fare for foodies too. Home cooked dishes from West Bengal, Mangalore, Coorg, Kerala, Mumbai, Delhi and the North-East.
