Regular bus services required

 Sir, — Despite repeated requests from the people seeking restoration of the Pushpak bus service on the Vidyamanyanagar-Shivajinagar route, only an express service has been introduced.

 The first trip starts at 8.a.m., but the second between Vidyamanyanagar and Kempe Gowda Bus Station has been stopped.

 Although the Transport Department says collections on the route are poor, the argument cannot be bought as only regular services will ensure a frequently travelling public.

 The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation is a service organisation and should not look for constant profits.

 After the introduction of monthly bus passes, revenue collections must have gone up.

 Further, buses assigned to ply on route 243-E have been getting cancelled of late as they are said to have been leased out on contract.

 Sir, — Before Independence, the British Royal Air Force used to play western band music at the band stand of Cubbon Park in Bangalore between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. every Saturday.

 A large number of connoisseurs of music used to enjoy it.

 However, barring a few occasions, the band stand has been lying idle after Independence.

 The band stand in Lalbagh has also met the same fate. I request the authorities to arrange music and dance programmes on week-ends, both in the morning and in the evening.

 Such a move will be a boon to elderly people.

 Sir,— Residents of phase I, ITI Layout, J.P. Nagar, are put to a lot of inconvenience owing to the absence of a post box in the area.

 The one that existed near 30th Main Road, adjacent to the Ganesha temple, was removed a couple of months ago.

 It has not been replaced. People from the area are forced to go to J.P. Nagar Phase II post office to post their letters.

 The postal authorities are requested to look into the matter and do the needful at the earliest.

 Vidhana Soudha Layout comes under the jurisdiction of W6 sub-division of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

 The Board collected Rs. 10,000 in August 2004.

 In January 2008, they made individual telephone calls in order to collect Rs. 1,740 as meter charges.

 Almost five months later, not even a single water connection has been given to the V.S. Layout residents.

 The authorities should look into the issue at the earliest.
