TDP activists celebrate win

MYLAVARAM (Krishna district): There was jubilation in the ground of Appidi Subba Reddy Primary School in Pulluru village near here on Sunday. Telugu Desam Party activists and sympathisers poured into the ground from all over Krishna district as news about the party candidates winning in the by-elections began to spread.

They came there to congratulate party president N. Chandrababu Naidu who camped there as part of his Meekosam programme. Mr. Naidu stayed put at the place during the day, continuing his overnight stay after visiting a few villages in Mylavaram Assembly constituency on Saturday.

Party activists burst firecrackers and threw colours at one another to celebrate the momentous occasion. The activists gave Mr. Naidu a tumultuous applause when he came out of the special bus he has been using for his roadshows. He accepted bouquets given to him without showing any emotion and went about business as usual. Without wasting much time with the celebrating activists, he went into a tent to meet the persons who are in charge of different Assembly constituencies in Krishna district.

Mr. Naidu then spoke to leaders and activists of Mylavaram Assembly constituency. He reiterated the announcement that the party had already decided to field Komati Sudhakar as its candidate in the constituency in the next general elections.

Leaders warned

Mr. Naidu made this announcement when he entered the constituency on Saturday itself. He, however, warned leaders and activists of the constituency against indulging in group politics. The TDP leader returned to his bus after the meeting for some rest.

There was a bigger gathering to greet him when he came out of the bus just before he left the school ground. Activists burst a second round of firecrackers and showered their leader with flowers.

Addressing reporters briefly, Mr. Naidu said he wanted to thank the voters for exercising their franchise in favour of the TDP despite the threats and allurements of the ruling Congress.
