NEW DELHI: A Ukrainian passenger was killed and three others injured when a bus hired by an international airline hit them at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here in the early hours of Sunday.
All four were rushed to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre at Vasant Kunj in South-West Delhi. While the Ukrainian passenger Mykhailo Bershadsky succumbed to his injuries on the way, another passenger Shambhu Prasad from Nepal has been admitted to the hospital. His condition is said to be stable. The other two, a passenger and the bus assistant, who received minor injuries were discharged after first aid. According to airport sources, the incident occurred around 1-30 a.m. when the three passengers and the bus assistant were taking out luggage from the boot of a bus in front of Gate No.3 in the kerbside area of the international terminal. They were hit from behind by another bus carrying an international airline crew. The traffic marshals on duty had tried to stop the bus carrying the airline crew, but the vehicle jerked forward and hit them, airport sources said.
The Delhi police have arrested the driver of the bus, which carried the international airline crew and is investigating the case.
