Man dies of anthrax

KORAPUT: Barsu Jani, a 50-year-old man from Mantriput village in Semiliguda block of Koraput district died of anthrax on Sunday, S.K.Takri, Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO) said. Two more persons were also seriously affected of the disease. More than 10 cows, buffaloes and goats had died in the village in the last 20 days and the villagers had consumed some of them.

According to the official sources while all the cattle in the village were vaccinated, there was a continuous inflow of cattle being brought into the village from outside which might not have been vaccinated. A sensitisation drive was also launched today jointly by the Veterinary , Medical and Block administration officials to create awareness on the disease while asking people to stop eating the dead animals .
